Festivals or club events?

Every year thousands and thousands of people flock to music festivals all around some great some not so great. Every week people all around the world flock to clubs some great some not great.

So this begs the question what do you prefer festivals or club events? By club events I mean events which have an international DJ, or a good and steady local line up etc. Not a club running a weekly night and having a headline DJ.

I like music festival's don't get me wrong, but I seem to get lost, theirs so many DJ's playing, so many people and reguarly to much space but on the positive side you have some absolutely amazing DJ's which we don't get to see on a regular basis and memories from these festivals which almost become a culture such as Summadayze. I speak to people who went to Summdayze over 5 years ago and who still talk about the time they went and saw an amazing set by some DJ or just had a great time, it's a tradition which goes on.

On the other hand you have club events less DJ's, less people, less space but everyone usually in one or two areas, easier toilet access (which is very important) and that club like atmosphere.

Both have its ups and downs music festivals don't happen on a regular basis, club events more often.

One thing which festivals will always have on club events is the amazing atmosphere of everyone enjoying a certain song or moment.

So what do you prefer festivals or club events?

Has David Guetta revolutionized the music industry?

Ok one word to sum up David Guetta in 2009 that word is "Amazing". He has achieved things which other DJ's could only dream about, and I think has revolutionized the music industry for DJ's in particular. His super successful album "One Love" had many tracks which not only rocked clubs all around the world but commercial radio stations, something which could been seen as odd as David Guetta is known for being a DJ/Producer and they don't really get much radio play as the radios stations are dominated by pop and rhythm and blues songs.

David Guetta though has produced this album with many high-profile vocalists including Akon, Kelly Rowland, Ne-Yo, Kid Cudi and many more. Arguably the most successful track on his album was "Sexy Bitch" a vocal house mix created in one night by Guetta and Akon, this track not only helped Guetta to stardom but showed recording companies all around the world house tracks can become very successful and DJ's/Producers can have success on commercial radio.

In 2009 he was placed #3 best DJ in the world by DJ Mags Top 100, he was nominated for 5 Grammy awards and won 1 for best remixed recording for his hit track "When love takes over" which featured US pop diva Kelly Rowland. While Guetta had a great year individually I think he also did a great job representing DJ's and producers all around the world by proving a point.

Many more Deadmau5's & Bloody Beetroots to come?

It's the 21st century technology is constantly evolving and as a society so are we. The other day I was thinking about music and DJ's in general, and I thought to myself why does Deadmau5 wear a big mouse head? Or why do the Bloody Beetroots wear masks? Which got me thinking even more.

Do DJ's now use things like a mouse head or a mask to individualize themselves from the crowd of DJ's and to help them gain a bigger name? Or do they have an actual meaning I don't remember any DJ 5 years ago wearing a mask or something similar, I tried researching by Deadmau5 wears a big mouse head, but had no luck the same with the Bloody Beetroots.

I guess only time will tell if more mouse heads pop up, maybe the next big DJ will dressed up as Harry Potter and have a hit track called I'm a wizard.

Are house DJ's bigger then trance DJ's?

Well Tiesto rocked his Kalediscope tour all around Australia, previously known for his rocking trance genre Tiesto played more of a house/electro/pop set. Has Tiesto changed the way he plays as house music is bigger world wide? It seems to me that house DJ's have better luck and are given more chances to upcoming trance DJ's.

In DJ mags top 100 DJ poll the top #2 spots are dominated by the likes of Armin and Tiesto but from then onwards it there seems to be a lack of trance DJ's yes there's Above and Beyond, Sander van Doorn and many more who are great djs/producers but it seems DJ's such as David Guetta, Axwell, Australia's own Dirty South and more that play a more commercial genre are known bigger on the wider scale, A great example is Australia DJ/Producer tyDi he's ranked #52 in the DJ Mag top #100 he's produced many great tracks and is currently working on his second album but I'm sure many people would know some smaller house DJ's then tyDi due to their more commercial genre.

So what do you think? Are house DJs bigger then trance oriented DJs?

Is The Competition Heating Up?

Well its been a while since the blog has been updated, mainly because I don't like updating it unless i'm writing about something which really gets me thinking.

Christmas and New Year have passed and so have many festivals/events you have your NYE Sensation and Summadayze NYD. When you think of NYE events you would think Sensation instantly while NYD you would think Summadayze.

Although these huge festivals attract thousands of people this industry is constantly growing and the competition is heating up, NYE there were many other events none which I feel would take large numbers away from Sensation but still these events brought in a full house.

On the other hand NYD (New Years Day) there were an array of festivals and events both day and night. We had Betterdayz which was a sell out and always is, the Falls which also attracts a large crowd then there is Day Dream which was being run the first time. Day Dream played host to some huge DJ's such as TV Rock, Goldfish, Chuck Love and legendary DJ Pete Tong all this in a friendly and classy environment not to forget great lighting and sound here we have an event which can heat up the competition

So the competition is heating up and no longer can large entertainment companies be assured of huge numbers they must work for it as this industry is going. But there are positives for these large companies smaller numbers at events which are constantly crowded such as Summadayze means less lines, served quicker, actual space to move and an overall happy customer if the music and so on is to there standards.

Do CDJ 2000's mark the end of an era?

Hello blog readers, it has been a couple of weeks since my last blog.

As we all know the new Pioneer CDJ2000's have hit Australia and the world with some great new features, which makes djing and carrying music around a whole lot easier, but does it mark the end of an era?

I'm doubt many Dj's enjoy burning CD's, printing track list's and so on. Although would it seem weird if you see a DJ walk into a club and just use a USB? I understand we've gone from vinyl's to CD's and now its time for USB's which are compatible with the new 2000's but do we need it? and should we change?

I'm sure many Dj's actually take pride in track listing and so on, so what do you think? Should clubs change from there 1000's to the new 2000's obviously there's no rush and I understand that these new pieces of technology do make djing a lot easier and even more efficient.

One thing is for sure though Pioneer are always finding ways to change the growing industry and leading the way while doing it.

The CDJ1000 MK3's have had MP3 CD capability for years now (which is good and bad). The CDJ400 have had USB since their release in 2007. Most clubs and DJ's on the forefront of technology are already using Laptops sporting software such as Traktor or Serato. The CDJ2000's are just another slow step in that direction. In reality they're not worth the money. In fact while we're going that way, the same could be said about the CDJ1000's since few if any DJ's on the main Melbourne circuit even use the loop or hot cue features live.

Yeh mate I agree, I don't see many DJ's who actually use mp3 CD's and I feel the CDJ1000's are great and will stay in the scene for at least another 1-2 years

What makes a DJ different?

Another week is gone, which means more another event has passed Sound Mansion which didn't disappoint. While I was at Sound Mansion going from the Central Park stage (Trance Room) to the Neon Stage (House), I thought to myself what makes a DJ different to the rest of disc jockeys out there?

In the Neon Stage Grant Smillie made the crowd go crazy and did not disappoint, he played an amazing set and I saw all the energy he put into it and the effort which doesn't go unnoticed. While in other rooms some DJ's are djing as if they its the end of the world and show no effort whatsoever. I find that the DJ's who put all their effort in and not look like their just djing to make money make the crowd go to another level.

Recently I saw Australian DJ Tyd live who was just entered the DJ Mag top 100 for 2009 at #52 a great effort. When Tydi DJ's he doesn't just put a cd in and a cd out he ignites the crowd and gets them into it his recent success shows this effort doesn't go unnoticed.

Both Grant Smillie and Tydi have made good successful names for themselves, all DJ's should have a look and think what can I do to make my set stand out?

Maybe its:
The music they play?
How they mix?
The way they dress?
The effort given?

What do you think of DJ Mags top100 Djs for 2009 ?

It’s that time of the year summer has just arrived its has been a week or so since my last blog and since then DJ Mag has had their top 100 list of DJ’s for 2009 leaked yet again with some surprising results and some not surprising results. Their has been no change at the top with Armin Van Buuren sitting at the top of the pack, French superstar DJ/producer David Guetta who’s rocking the charts all around the world has moved up two places to number #3.

Cosmic Gate who rocked Godskitchen less then a month away jumped a well deserved #43 places to take spot #19 and in the top #20.  A personal favourite Australian trance DJ Tydi entered at number #52 his hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed

So what do you think of this list? Accurate or complete shambles is this all just for the hype or do these results reflect a DJ's performance? I wonder what DJ's thinks of this list.

Tiesto still a success and always will be


Just got Tiesto's new album "Kaleidoscope" what can I say? A complete turn around in the music he usually produces. Tiesto in my point of view has taken it to another level here, but will everyone be satisfied?
He has gone from hard trance to an indie/trance genre which I think is amazing but Tiesto is known for his hard playing tracks and ability to wow crowds. Can he do it with the tracks in "Kaleidscope" ?, Tiesto will soon start his tour for the Kaleidscope album release which includes a trip down under to Australia in which many concerts are already sold out. If Tiesto plays only tracks from his Kaleidscope album I cannot see the crowd walking away saying that was money well spent, the tracks are amazing and Tiesto has shown his versatility but its not impulsing and as crowd pleasing when compared to "Adagio for strings" and "Lethal Industry" which made waves all around the world. He is the world's best DJ which is been disputed recently but he has won a Grammy which no other DJ can even come to close touching, Indie/Trance or Hard trance i will be a fan of Tiesto as I think he has changed the way Dj's are looked upon due to his success.

tiesto = fail his hasn't shaped jack shit, i don't think u anything about trance, the only ppl that have shaped trance is ferry corsten his a legend he redefined the sound of trance in a good and positive way not like this piece of crap, and he doesn't produce his own stuff so yea

I did not mention he has shaped trance I know he hasn't but he has achieved a lot of things which many others DJ's haven't. And I agree Ferry Corsten is a legend and he has some amazing tracks I highly respect him as a DJ and a producer.

2nd Blog

Well Hello World, Inner Events is officially up and running. There are minor changes being made to the website, and I would like to say that we now have new products in our tickets section. Including tickets for Sensation White which attracted over 20,000 people last year at Etihad Stadium, Pacha which came to Melbourne earlier this year and did not disappoint and Sound Mansion which is going to be a huge event, a massive lineup has been announced check it out at the What's On? section.

Now that we are online we can begin selling tickets for more and more events so be patient, relax, have a drink and enjoy, don't be afraid to have a chat on the forum, post a topic of interest and more.

I would also like to add we will soon have Inner Events T-shirts on sale which can be purchased online and are an essential in life so grab one and be the talk of the town.

Well thats another blog from me, which means in time for me to head out.
